CORNISH DUAL PURPOSE APPLE TREES

All maidens are £10.00 each

Two year old trees are £18.00 each

All Cornish apple trees are one year old maidens and are grafted onto a mm 106 semi dwarf rootstock giving a hight of 15-18ft tree depending on the growing condition.

Suitable varieties for dual purpose include:

BREAD FRUIT

A cooker/dessert. Found in Rezare, Cornwall . A large apple with a slight strawberry flavour, sweet subacid good for tarts, desserts. From October. Season-mid

CORNISH GIANT

A cooker/cider. Very large pale green fruit turning to pale yellow with bold red stripes it makes a very nice light cider.I have stored this and eaten it as a dessert.Season mid

CORNISH WINE APPLE

HOCKINGS GREEN

A dessert/cooker. A very hardy variety which grows well in wet and windy conditions. Particularly resistant to canker, bright green in colour and yellow when ripe to eat. Season mid to late.

IMPROVED KESWICK

A cooker/dessert. A Tamar Valley apple tree yellow/orange in colour . Sweet in flavour with a sub acid bite to it. A long season of use, good for a dessert at Christmas. Very heavy cropping which makes a weeping tree.

LADY'S FINGERS

A dual purpose apple large and ribbed ,green in colour with red stripes .Heavy cropping.Season early to mid.

MANACCAN PRIMROSE

A dessert/cooker. Flattish green turning yellow with green dots. Cooker. From late Aug-Sep sweet sub acid . Season 2nd early

ONION REDSTREAK

A dessert/cooker. A very beautiful stripey, shiny, flat apple a bit small to be a cooker but stunning, sharp in taste . Season 2nd early to mid.

PENDRAGON

A dessert/cooker/cider. A very interesting tree and another favourite of my own with its small red apples and red flesh, red stems and reddish leaves and dark pink blossom making a very attractive tree. Season 2nd early to mid.

PENHALLOW PIPPIN

PIGS SNOUT

A cooker/cider/dessert. Pale yellow with pink red flush, sweet, sub-acid,cidery taste. Season 2nd early to mid.

POLLY WHITEHAIR

A dessert/cooker from Truro.Very late keeping and with a sweet flesh,tall conical shape yellow in colour.Beautiful white blossom which stands out in an orchard.Season very late.

SCILLY PEARL

A very hardy variety from the Isles of Scilly. A large apple,  cooker/dessert bright yellow in colour. Season early to mid.

THE RATTLER

A dessert/cooker/cider from Penryn quite a acid flavour but  pleasant, pale yellow in colour. Season 2nd early. It makes the best cider.

TOMMY KNIGHT

A dessert/cider one of the best trees for windy sites from St Agnes it has the apperance of a thorn bush a crisp sweet and juicy in flavour and will keep untill june. Season late to very late. A superb tree

TREGONNA KING

One of the best for being disease resistant. Upright in habit, and grows well in wet locations, apples golden , flushed orange and keeps well for eating at Christmas. Season mid to late. Highly recommended.

WHITE QUARRENTINE

A very rare hardy variety from Mevagissey .A large pale yellow waxy apple with a strong smell .A good range of uses.Season early.
